Apple and OpenAI are allegedly in discussions about integrating with iOS 18
Tech companies are in discussions to integrate chatbot functionality into the iPhone.
Apple is apparently stepping up its talks with OpenAI ahead
of June's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), when AI is expected to be a
major talking point, according to Bloomberg.
As previously reported by Mashable, Apple has been in talks with a number of
significant AI firms about a possible partnership for on-device chatbot
functionality. Bloomberg claims that earlier this year, Apple and OpenAI
discussed the possibility of a partnership. such with knowledge of the
situation said that such discussions have since resumed. The topic of the
potential agreement might be iOS 18's OpenAI integrations.
That being said, no agreement has been made as of yet. It appears that Apple is debating whether to collaborate with a different business to include chatbot functionality into their products. Additionally, Apple and Google are in discussions regarding the iPhone version of Google's Gemini.
Recent findings suggest that Apple is also developing an AI
update for Siri. According to Cecily Mauran of Mashable, Apple researchers are
developing a model that will be able to comprehend a device's background and
on-screen content more contextually than ChatGPT can at the moment. Moreover,
it would comprehend the context of conversations better. Due to their high
processing resource requirements, large language models (LLMs), which are
currently cloud-based, would change if all of this were done on a device.
We might not learn anything about Apple's plans until WWDC.
